No changes to the 94/9/EF directive have been made for the past 13 years, but 20 April 2016 the new ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU became effective and with no transitional scheme. The new directive is primarily intended to clarify the responsibility boundaries for manufacturer, importer, distributor etc. However, this will also affect the Danish operators and their suppliers in the oil & gas industry as awareness about responsibility is important in connection with selling/procurement of equipment.
In continuation of the new directive, the existing harmonized standards for Non-electrical equipment for potentially explosive atmospheres, EN13463 series, were also replaced in 2016 by standards from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO); ISO 80079-36 & 37.
